SPECIAL THANKS TO ALL THAT SUPPORTED THIS AMAZING EVENT!
I’m Lew Montgomery, former Iowa Hawkeye fullback and Waterloo Iowa native. I’m reaching out to family; friends and business partners to ask for your support in helping us make an impact our community. My entire life I learned to stare adversity in the face and overcome obstacles by out working and being mentally prepared. Our son Lucas suffers from a rare disorder called Sanfilippo Syndrome. Our opponent has no treatment or cure. I can’t out work it or prepare for it because it simply runs its course leading to grim results.
We decided not to accept the results but figure out a way to make a difference. So, we decided to create events that encourage and engage people from all ages to consider a healthy lifestyle, whether running or walking Laps for Lucas 5K Run/Walk, Links for Lucas – Swinging for a Cure or Farrell’s Kickboxing for a Cure – Level 10 for Lucas, our entire family remain long-time devotees to health and fitness. It’s been a great stress relief for us and rewarding knowing we made a difference, raising 3 daughters (Hailee, Chelsey and Mariah), and now two grandchildren. Lucas remains the Apple
of Our Eye.
Lucas has spent his life battling countless medical problems, surgeries and doctors trying to uncover the mystery that was revealed as Sanfilippo Syndrome or MPS IIIB which is a progressive degenerative disorder effecting his cognitive and skeletal functions. As you can imagine, Lucas’ needs have changed and requires us to monitor his condition more closely. Since his first diagnosis at age 8, we saw his determination to keep fighting and because of his drive and our love for him we continue to create events that embrace his spirit and determination. We hope you will consider a donation towards MPS Research.
Our family, friends and community partners are so valuable to our efforts of finding a cure for this devastating disorder. Fortunately, clinical trials are being researched as we speak but still several years away for some of our kids. By providing positive options for families and mentoring our youth we can provide positive leadership experiences and life skills that can make a difference. Lucas has challenged us to step outside of the box and create flexible programs that cater to all types of people and business interest.
Our goal is to heighten MPS awareness and raise $150,000 in funding to support Sanfilippo research. Visit our donate page to provide a generous financial contribution, participate and support our events and have a willingness to serve as ambassadors for our MPS related disorders. I know we can count on you!
